Resume functionality

Jun 05, 2013

Can you tell me where the logic is found that determines whether or not the Resume? window pops up?

I published a course with SCORM 1.2, and I'm using a privately generated LMS.

Is it based on the vResumeData query string parameter being created in story.js?  I am looking to get a better understanding of the code itself to simulate bookmarking.

Hi Matt. Welcome to the community!

I won't be able to help you with the coding question, unfortunately. However, if you're simply wanting to change the course resume and prompt settings, you can change this from within the project.

Here's how:

Click on "Player", then select "Other". From here, you'll be able to modify the options for your resume prompt:

If you select "Prompt to resume" users will see the prompt when revisiting the course. If you select "Always resume", the course will resume without the prompt. If you select "Never resume" the course will load from the beginning, each time.

If you're truly looking for coding information, hopefully someone will be able to give you some advice :)

Good luck!

Hi Matt,

Hmm. It really should pick up anywhere the user left off when they exit the course. You mentioned you're using a private LMS - can you test this outside of the LMS and see if the same thing happens?

If you can, try testing your course in SCORM Cloud. Does the same thing happen when you exit and revisit the course?

If not, it may be how the LMS is handling the resume feature. Or it may be due to some other settings - are you using the Flash cookie option in your course?

Thanks!

Good suggestion.  It works in SCORM Cloud (it picks up where I left off).  The original reason why I wanted to know more about the code was so I could try and troubleshoot what was missing for the Resume not to appear.

If I go through the debug log with my LMS nothing jumps out.  Any thoughts?

I'm ignoring Flash Cookies.  Should I try checking that box?

Hi Matt,

I would recommend at least trying that, yes. If the Flash cookie is disabled, resume will be based on the LMS itself. If you enable the Flash cookie, it should resume from that instead and that may be just want you need :)

I'm afraid code isn't my best area - but if this continues to cause a problem for you, I can certainly ask around.

Thanks!

Hi J,

If you have the resume and the prompt enabled, you're going to receive this message/feature no matter where you left off. Completing the course doesn't stop this from happening.

Are you not wanting the prompt to display, or are you not wanting the course to resume?

If you could provide some additional details, that would be great.

Thanks!

Peter Herman

I'm having an issue where the Resume prompt happens right in the middle of playing the course.  I chose not to resume when I launched the course, but when it reaches a certain slide, it displays the prompt to resume.  Properties are the same.  Any thoughts?  I tried re-publishing.  It's still happening.  I do notice that this is an Engage interaction navigating to the next slide, which is also Engage.
