resume in Storyline quiz with random question bank

Jan 15, 2014

Is it possible to have a user exit a quiz in storyline and return to it later from he left off if the quiz is built using a question bank of randomly selected questions?

Hi there, Maggie. Happy to help!

I checked out Agnieszka's case where our team identified an issue where resuming a quiz with question bank more than once may not save its correct status. We're still looking at this behavior on both versions of Storyline, so I'll share your voice on the corresponding report!

If that doesn't match what you're seeing, would you mind sharing your .story file with us for a closer look? We'll try to replicate the problem, and will delete it after troubleshooting. You can send that file to privately to us here.

Hi Katie, thank you. Yes, that is the exact same behavior we're experiencing. Our team actually has an active case open with Articulate support (from 5 August). We were told it might be a possible software bug; they'll let us know once they have an update. It's quite urgent as this issue have impacted many of our assessment question modules.

Great news, everyone!

We fixed the issue where resuming a quiz with a question bank more than once did not save its correct status. Here's how to update Storyline 360 to see all the recent enhancements and fixes.

If the problem reappears, please record a Peek 360 screencast for me and I'll be happy to help!

Hello there, Maggie!

This issue is still open in Storyline 3. As soon as we have a fix in place, we'll share the news here!

In the meantime, if you would like to see the fix first-hand, you can sign up for a free trial of Articulate 360 trial here. A backup copy of any Storyline 3 file gets created, so you can always continue to use them in this version.

Hi all,

I have the same issue.
I created a Course with a Question Bank inside (116 questions).

Each time I exit from the Course it doesn't resume the test from the last question (exemple: I arrive at question 20 and exit. When I entr the test again it starts from Question 14)

Here are my configuration:

Articulate Storyline: 3.43.22859.0
Question Bank with Randomisation of Questions and Answers
Always Remuse
Resume saved state for the test slide
Passing score 75%

I attach the story file and scorm file

Hope you can help me!

Massimiliano

Hi Massimiliano!

Thank you so much for sharing these details and files!

I am seeing the same error where Question 14 always appears first when relaunching the course. I've started a case on your behalf and escalated it to our Support Engineers. They are going to test the project and see what the fix is!

You'll hear from our team shortly via email.

Will do Chris. So far support has asked me to test the item in SCORM cloud and see if the issue occurs here, to rule out any problems that may be due to my particular LMS system.

The issue does indeed occur in SCORM cloud and I've notified Wilbert (articulate support) of this. I'll keep this thread updated with any further progress.

Hi Michelle, I'm also trying to force users to complete an assessment in one sitting, but keep the assessment to "always resume" so that they can't sit it a second time. Did you have any joy with your assessment?

Thanks. Jo

Hi Jo,

In my case it turned out to be a setting for the training item within my LMS, the "maximum suspended data size". it was set to 4096MB as default, but it turned out for my large course this would only "remember" so far into the course. When I increased this the resume behavior started behaving correctly. Increasing this data size is now something I do for any large-ish SCORM course I upload to my LMS.

Hope this helps,

Michelle
