Resume Saved State after Lightbox

Sep 05, 2012

I'm simulating a Jeopardy game and having trouble making the selected "answers" (rounded rectangles with $ value) change to an already visited state like on the show.

The learner should click the "answer" on slide A to trigger a lightbox of slide B (containing the "answer")  AND initiate a selected or visited state of the button on slide A.

When they close the lightbox of slide B, the state of the "answer" object on slide A should remain in the altered/saved state.

I've set the slide to "Resume saved state" upon returning but it's not working.

Is this impossible? Do I need to "simulate" a lightbox with layers in order to accomplish this??

Thanks in advance,

Josh

Adrian,

Perhaps you can help with another issue I'm having with this file. I am pretty sure I am overlooking something (like I did with the triggers above).

In general, I'm creating the Jeopardy game for individual practice (on the honor system) or classroom facilitation. Once the learner clicks an "answer" they click the right ">" icon to jump to the correct "question" slide which is a freeform slide. If they got it correct, they click the green check which is set as the "correct response" and awards the number of points/$ the question was worth. They should click the x to close the lightbox and choose another "answer" from the "board." Each category is treated as a separate quiz with its own hidden/unaccessible Results Slide. I've confirmed that they work correctly.

HOWEVER -here's the problem: I've created a "Total Winnings" slide that should combine the results from all Results Slides and display the total points they were awarded. It seems that the formula/variables (%Results5.ScorePoints%) isn't configured correctly so the total "winnings" keep coming up as 0.

I've considered pooling the results from each individual question into the "Total Winnings" results configuration but it didnt seem to work either.

What am I missing???

Thanks!

Thanks, Adrian. I'm starting to get to the bottom of this. The (embarassing) realization I came to was that, because I was lightboxing the interaction (Pick One), the submit button wasn't there for the learner to click, therefore, they would X out of the lightbox without being forced to submit their answer.

In consideration of your point, I enabled the "Submit" navigation control on the lightboxed slide but it would not close the lightbox, it moved on to the next slide. I also tried manually adding a button to do submit the interaction and THEN close the lightbox - that did the same thing. I reversed that order and it closes the lightbox but doesn't submit the results.

I want to avoid creating 25 separate layers and I like the lightbox feature for these purposes but it seems like it may not be conducive to self-paced/selected assessment like I'm hoping.

Any suggestions?

Adrian,

I'm familiar with this technique but layers do not allow me to build interactions/submit the interaction/submit results. :(

The problem comes down to wanting to close the lightboxed interaction, submit the interaction, AND ensure the results are submitted for aggregation in the final Results/"Total Winnings" slide.

I'm beginning to think I've hit a dead end :(

I appreciate your diligence and help with this!

Josh
