"Resume saved state" - doesn't work in Internet Explorer/HTML5.

Sep 28, 2016

Hi, I have a quiz with question slides (check boxes). A client just told me that if he goes back to the previous page the check boxes are blank. The second time in the same session it seems to work though.

I have set the slides to "Resume saved state".

It works in Chrome but not in Internet Explorer 11. The output is HTML5.

Please help, my deadline is the day efter tomorrow :(.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Fredrik! Thanks for reaching out here about this. Internet Explorer is not a supported browser for HTML5 output. Supported browsers for viewing HTML5 content are as follows:

  • Windows: Google Chrome (latest version)
  • Mac: Safari 7 and later, Google Chrome (latest version)
  • Mobile: Safari in Apple iOS 7 and later, Google Chrome (latest version) in Android OS 4.1 and later

You can read more about the minimum system requirements for viewing content here. Please let me know if you have questions! :)

Hi Fredrik,

We publish with HTML5 included if you're looking to view it as such and just use one of the supported browsers as mentioned above. We based the supported browsers on how each of them behave with HTML5 content in general and then our specific testing with Storyline or Studio content. If you'd like to take a look at the different browsers and how they'll handle HTML5 output in general you could refer to a site such as HTML5test.com - really great comparison and scoring of all these elements.

Knowing that HTML5 is becoming a wider and more acceptable standard with the security issues present in Flash for some companies, our team does continue to investigate ways in which we can create output that will behave as we'd like in those browsers. It's at the front of our radar and once we've got additional information to share about hat set up we'll be sure to do so!

I'm having this same issue. Thanks for providing the info about the HTML5 supported browsers. Maybe you can provide some further clarification for me.

I am running HTML5 in Internet Explorer because I have some javascript at the end of my presentation that reports variable values to a .csv file. I think I read somewhere in the community that I had to use Internet Explorer for the javascript to work, which is why I started using IE. Additionally, HTML in IE wasn't working with the javascript, but when I switched to the HTML5 output in IE, it worked.

Do you know if I can use both the HTML5 output and the javascript function in one of the listed supported browsers?

Hi Summer,

The HTML5 isn't supported in IE, but I know that some users have mentioned it does work for them especially with the more recent versions of IE. You mentioned the flash output (the HTML) set up wasn't working within IE and I'm curious to know more about where you had uploaded and hosted the published output? Was it within your LMS, a web server, etc.?

HTML5 and Javascript should work in a supported browser such as Chrome on a PC or Safari on a Mac. You can see our general Javascript documentation here and the list of supported browsers here.
