Retaining Quiz results when learner quits course.

Aug 05, 2013

Hi all,

I am using the results.scorePercent and Results.ScorePoints variables as a decision point to show either a "finish course" or "retake quiz" button if they have passed or not passed the quiz respectfully.

My issue is if the learner quits on the results page when they reenter the course the score has been forgotten, so, even if they had passed the quiz and happened to quit the course on the results page when the reenter they get the retake quiz branch. I hope that makes sense.

Does anyone have a workaround to retain quiz results when the learner resumes the course?

Thanks,

Mike

Hey Michael,

I'm not quite sure, but a couple things come to mind. First, I think the issue is related to SCORM and not so much the architecture within Storyline. Once a learner completes, passes, and exits a course on the results slide, those results are sent to the LMS. If you retain those within that architecture and the learner exits again, it will potentially overwrite the current score already posted to the LMS.

The other issue is those two variables - Results.scorePercent and Results.scorePoints are default to Storyline and there is no current way to tap into their respective buckets of data.

If you want to retain the score "INSIDE" of Storyline you may have to get creative and create a parallel scoring mechanism to visually show the learner. When the learner returns you could say something like, "This was your previous score. If you wish to attempt the quiz again, your previous score will be overwritten with a new score." Then supply a button that would empty that alternate variable.

Hope I'm understanding correctly and this is somewhat of help.
