Retake quiz - how to reset answers

Oct 10, 2012

I have an 11 question "final exam" that I need my students to get 100% on, otherwise they need to retake the test.

However, when I go back to the first page to start the test over, I cannot enter in the new answer.  How do I fix it so they can enter in a new answer?

Thanks!!

Hi!

Do you have a variable that resets the Results slide when the user clicks Retake and/or Restart? See the variable highlighted below.

Maybe you would have to have this variable for both buttons? The variable for “retry” might be automatically programmed by Storyline, but you may have to program the Restart button manually.

Let me know if this helps!

Thanks A, for sharing the file here with us. I think in regards to the "GoBack to Part" is that the trigger to reset the results is after the trigger to jump to that particular slide. Trigger order for those type of things is crucial, so you'll want to ensure that triggers to reset or adjust variables occur before triggers to jump to slides or layers.

Hi all- Stumbled across this while trying to set up an option for users to retake quiz question if you don't have a results screen.  Tried allowing slide to be reset each time but then they get unlimited tries.  I want users to get two tries and then later be able to go back to the quiz and take it.  Any ideas?  I've attached the slide in question.

Hi Joni,

I wanted to confirm what you're looking to see:

- while on the slide you'd like the user to answer it twice, and if incorrect after the second attempt they'll move on to the next slide
- the user should be able to return to the question slide and have it reset to allow for two more attempts?

You'll need to track this using variables for the initial set up, and then based on them revisiting the slide, the slide properties will need to be "reset to initial state" to allow for the additional attempts. You may want to look at this forum discussion where it's shown (just using a drag and drop question) but the same principles will apply in terms of the variables. Also it looks like you added some additional triggers to prevent the user from changing their answer and also basing submission on a different state? That left me a bit confused as those states don't co-exist and would be in contrast with one another. I wasn't sure your intent there, but you may want to take a look at the defintions of the built in states and how they'll all behave here.

Ashley-  THANK YOU!  It worked!  I also got rid of the wonky stuff you mentioned with the states.  Don't know what they were doing there in the first place.

Thank you so much.  You a so great at your job and I really appreciate your help on all of this.  If you're even in Madison, WI, I owe you a beer!

Thanks again-  Joni

Whew! That one threw me for a loop based on your other triggers, so I'm glad I got you in the right direction. I'll certainly let you know if I end up in Madison...I've never actually been to WI. :)

Haha! I'll also  tell our team about the need for change in avatars. Hopefully the smiling, carefree avatar is how you feel when you leave ELH for the day?
