Retake quiz - how to reset answers

Oct 10, 2012

I have an 11 question "final exam" that I need my students to get 100% on, otherwise they need to retake the test.

However, when I go back to the first page to start the test over, I cannot enter in the new answer.  How do I fix it so they can enter in a new answer?

Thanks!!

Ok- I'm back.  I had to change the story to allow for specific feedback if one answer was chosen and now when a user returns to the question, although it looks like it can redo the question, the previous answers are still loaded so it gets wrong feedback.  I think that the layers aren't resetting.  Any thoughts?  If you need a bigger sample of the story, let me know.

Thank you!

Hi Joni,

By default question slides aren't reset from the layer - so that the user can see how they previously answered and then choose a new choice. Even when using a "jump to slide trigger" as they've never technically left that slide. If you went to a new slide entirely, and then used the "jump to slide" trigger that would allow all the previous choices to disappear.

Also, you've got more than on continue button on these slides - so just an FYI. I'd recommend letting Storyline's default question set up control most things, and if you need additional behavior begin customizing from there.

Hi Ashley-  I think I understand what you mean.  I duplicated the slide and created a Retry button so the user is leaving the slide but the same problem is happening.  I can't wrap my head around what "If you went to a new slide entirely, and then used the "jump to slide" trigger that would allow all the previous choices to disappear" would look like.

Thank you again for your help!  I had to create a few new buttons to duplicate the variables as otherwise the buttons are on the feedback master and I can't select them for triggers.

Again, thank you!

PS- Please ignore the wonky formatting.  The resolution is all screwy from trying to import a 1280 slide into the default.

Hi Joni,

I tried to set this up with your file - but I honestly got a bit lost in the triggers, so I did a really basic set up on a new file to demonstrate what I was talking about in terms of how the triggers are set up to go to a new slide and that slide is set to automatically jump to the next slide.

Hello everyone,

Got some issues here a bit different from the precedent ones. During my training, I like to add a quiz to let people get a rest. So I add quiz in the course which are different from the Final quiz. This "little quiz" are one slide with two layers that show up if the learner answers correctly or not. When the learner fails I want him to take the quiz again. So when the user clicks on the "try again" button, the trigger hides the incorrect layer to let the learner to do so on the main one. However, we can't change any precedent answer even though I have the settings set to "Reset to Initial State" on the main layer. Any idea why it's not working?

Thanks

Hello everyone,

I have a course where a student must get a passing score of 80% on a final exam. If they don't pass, they can either review the class or just retake the final exam. On some occasions when a user needs to retake the exam they are unable to click one of the answers. I have to click the next button all the way until the end of the exam, it tells them that they got a 0% and when they retake the exam again they are able to click on the answers. This doesn't happen all of the time so I'm not sure what is going on...

I don't have the retry exam enabled because the student either goes to a success layer or a failure layer.. Success will let them exit the class and failure gives them the options to retake or review the class... should I not have this?

I have over 10 different classes and only one of them has this issue.

Any suggestions?  Thank you - Jenny

Hi Jenny,

If it's not happening all the time I'd start to look more specifically at environmental factors such as the browser they're using and if they are accessing the Flash vs. HTML5 output. Have you set up the retry of the exam from within your LMS or on the failure layer of the Storyline slide? If it's within the LMS you may need to reach out to them and determine if there is a particular issue or error there.

Hi Ashley,

It is difficult to see each person't environment when this is happening because they are not taking the course at our school. How would I or they know which version (flash or HTML5) they are taking? I have the Aritculate and HTML5 box checked when I publish. We publish in TinCan. The most recent example the student was taking the class on a laptop with Google Chrome. I have the retry final as a layer on the results slide. I am currently also working with SCROM because of a different issue where a student passed with a 92% yet when he clicked to exit it moved him back to the start of the exam and made him retake it..

Hi Jenny - Just wanted to verify that the retry you have enabled is from the result slide options as this documentation states.

It is certainly hard to track issues when they are sporadic and only happening to a sub-set of users.

If possible, you could test the content in SCORM Cloud to see if the users experience issue there as well. This will determine if the issue lies within the content or the LMS.

If you are able to reproduce the issue in SCORM Cloud and/or are able to identify a specific environment that you wish for us to take a closer look at, please feel free to share your .story file for us to take a look.

I have a button I added at the end of my exam that gives the user an option to retake the training if they failed.  When they click on the button it brings them to the start of the training.  My issue is once they get to the exam portion again the answers are filled in from before.  I do have the results slide layer set to reset to initial state.

Any advice would be great!

Thanks,

Michelle
