Retrieve Progress from LMS and Update Storyline with Completed Sections

Apr 22, 2016

I'm about to start building a rather large course and I'm considering using Storyline for the job. The course contains a series of 9 modules. As the user completes each module, a check mark on the main menu will appear next to the module name. (I've done all that before - no worries).

What I'm curious to know is if the user stops and comes back to the module, can their progress be saved and restored in the course? For example, they work through modules 1 through 4. They return the next day and start with module 5. I know bookmarking will take them back to module 5, but I want to know is this:

Can the check marks for modules 1 - 4 be made visible via polling the LMS?

Also, I cannot count on this being a purely linear transaction. They may jump around from module to module.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

Hi, Robert -- Thanks for reaching out! May I ask if you can share the name of the LMS provider you are using? That may be helpful in case others in the community are utilizing the same service and have attempted something similar. Otherwise, I'd recommend that you reach out to your LMS provider directly to inquire as to whether or not that type of resume behavior within series of modules is possible.

Hi Robert,

I'm not sure I'm clear on what you mean by "polling the LMS"? The checkmarks aren't automatically reported to your LMS system as they are not built into a quiz or similar.

If you've enabled the Resume behavior and have the slides set to "resume saved state" the user should be able to pick up where they left off and see those checkmarks upon a return to that slide.
