Retry Quiz 3 Attempts and Timer Not Working Properly

Oct 20, 2021

Hello,

I have created a Storyline 360 Assessment and have marked that users are only allowed 3 tries. It works when they launch the course and retry 3 times during that initial launch.  However, when they relaunch the course, the attempts are reset and the user can take the quiz another 3 times.  I tried to do the above but when I select Action "Reset results", there is no option "when visiting".  Can you please look at the attached Storyline and let me know what I am doing wrong?

I also have set the timer at 120 minutes but this also resets every time the user launches the course.  How do I correct this?

I am in a crunch and need this answered as soon as possible.  Per my company guidelines, I can't attach the file here but I can send it to you via my email.

Thanks,

Mary

Sorry, I'm not comfortable with emailing it.

My first reply was based on last sentence of first paragraph. I see you have other posts where you seem to have solved these issues. I'm not sure if you can restrict the activities you mention to those extents.

I believe the timer is only per session, so every launch.

As for the 3 tries and out, you might look into seeing what's possible on your company's LMS side of things.

Hi Scott,

When I tried to add the trigger to Reset Results and add "When Visiting" as per a previous post I saw, there is no option for when visiting.  Can you give instructions that I can follow to setting a the limit to 3 attempts altogether?  I have copied my Storyline removing any confidential information and attached it for you.  Can you take a look?

Thanks,

Mary

All I did was changed the settings on the results slide to return to initial state when revisiting. This should then rely on your other settings to control number of tries, counting  retries, etc.

See if this does the trick (see attached) - I didn't take any time to test in an actual LMS.

Aside from the above, I'm assuming you'll come back later to restrict Next/Previous buttons and other stuff after figuring this out.
