Return to saved state doesn't work
Aug 28, 2015
Hello, I have menu slide with an MP4 video of an animated host playing under the menu buttons. I set the slide properties to "resume saved state", yet when the user returns to the menu it plays the last 3 seconds of the video. I've tried lengthening the slide timeline and even lengthening the video, but it keeps playing the last 3 seconds of the video when returning to the menu. Any ideas? I have attached the author file for you to look at.
Thanks, Guy Armstrong

Hi Guy,
Thanks for sharing your file here. I took a look at the initial menu in the first scene, and changed the video on the timeline to not be set to "shown until end" and that way once the video finished playing it's not replaying the few seconds that you're seeing at the end.
Can you take a look at applying that setting on the video slides were you're running into an issue?
Ashley,
Thanks for your response.
Where do I make this adjustment? Can’t find it anywhere in the video controls option or elsewhere.
Is this a trigger that I add?
Thanks,
Guy
Hi Guy,
If you right click on the video element in the timeline you'll see that you can make a change to how it's set to be "shown until end" or unselect that and not shown till the end.
Hope that helps!
Ashley,
I’ve modified all the video clips in this way and the video clips still play the last few seconds in almost every case.

Hi Guy,
It doesn't seem that the links came through here - and if you're responding via email any attachments, images, or hyperlinks will not transfer. You'll need to visit the thread and use the "add attachment" button to share any files and you can add the links directly into the body of the reply text.

Hi Guy,
Thanks for sharing the file (the SCORM Cloud link didn't work for me, said the invite expired). I'm looking at the file and found two videos so far (slides 3.1 and 4.1) that were not set up with the "show until end" property as I mentioned so I'm not sure if the file or the link you were trying to share would be the correct ones. When I originally took a look at your file, it worked as I mentioned in preview, but I wasn't sure how you were publishing. I see what you're describing when uploading this most recent copy to SCORM Cloud, but I don't see the same with another video. Could you share one of these video files with me so that I could test inserting that in a brand new file?
Ashley,
Sorry the invite expired, here's another one:

Yes, they work fine in preview, but when published the course I experience
the error.
I've tried extending the videos by 3 seconds and re-inserting them - doesn't
work.
I appreciate your help.
Ashley,
I saw that you just downloaded the author file - it was the old one. I
posted the latest version - same link.
Sorry for the confusion.
Thanks
Hi Guy,
No worries - I saw the same thing in your file, regardless and changed the settings myself, but now I'd like to take a look at one of your videos. I tried inserting my own mp4s in, and those worked normally. Can you attach one of the videos here or provide a link to download it?
Ashley,
Here's two videos - the main menu and the lifting menu.
Thanks
Hi Guy,
Responding via email doesn't include the attachments here, so you'd need to revisit this forum thread to upload them using the "add attachment" button.
Thanks!
Ashley,
Here are two videos. Thanks
Thanks Guy for sharing those videos here - I see the same thing with your videos in a new course as well, but not my own final video added at the end. (I've attached a copy of the .story file I used and you can view this course uploaded here). So it seems to be something specific to those videos. I was able to extend the timeline and as long as the video played through and wasn't set to show until end, it would disappear (you could put a static image of the video behind it so that way it's not "gone" completely from view) and then the user can revisit the slide. I'll share them with our QA team for additional review, but in the meantime I'd look at using the workaround mentioned above or perhaps including a "pause layer" that is shown when the media completes and is set to have layer properties of pause the base layer, but still allow the user to click on the base and see other layers.
I'll be in touch once I have any additional information to share, but I can't offer a time frame so please continue to utilize those workarounds in the meantime.
Ashley,
I appreciate your efforts, Ashley. Weird issue - I've authored some other programs in the series where it's not an issue. I've started creating the videos with a 3-5 second lag at the end and that seems to help. Although, when I extend an existing video and then replace it in the slide the problem still exists.
Curious....
Hi Guy,
If I knew more about video editing, maybe there would be something to spot between how they're created or similar? If the lag works that's another good workaround in the meantime.
