Review Quiz does not move to next scene

Aug 03, 2015

Hello!

I am creating a fairly large quiz with a questions section, and two process simulations. They are formatted in 3 scenes.

1.) Questions

2.) Simulation 1

3.) Simulation 2

Now, when I take the quiz, each of these scenes are connected appropriately so I jump from one to the next, and I am graded cumulatively.

When the quiz if over, I have added a 'Review Quiz' for users to see what questions they might have gotten wrong. My problem is in this Review Quiz mode, I am unable to jump from the Questions scene to the Simulation 1 scene (and I assume the same is for Simulation 1 to Simulation 2). It's stuck when I click the 'Next' button.

I have tried adding triggers to the Review layer, but these triggers affect the Base layer.

I included a screenshot of the Review layer. How do I jump scenes in this Review Quiz mode?

Hi Mitchell!  It sounds like you'd like to include the content slides from other scenes on your Quiz Review; I'm assuming the Simulations are ungraded.

So working with the variables and triggers is typically the way to customize the navigation through your Quiz Review.  Here is an excellent tutorial about skipping content slides, but the variables and triggers could help you accomplish your desired behavior, which is to show the content slides in the Review.  Is that correct?

You are saying, however, that your next button gets "stuck" after the Review of the Quiz set.  Perhaps submitting a case to our Technical Support staff would be a better option for you, to rule out any problems with your file.

Crystal,

I figured out how to include a Next button in the review that allows the user to skip from one scene to another -- it seems pretty obvious now; adding a trigger in Story View. However, this Next button also appears during the Quiz. Is there a way of hiding it?

Also, the simulations are graded (users have been shown how to perform them in other modules), and I am not including content slides in between. I created multiple graded scenes as a means of separating each "section" of the assessment.

Hi, Mitchell -- Crystal is currently out of the office, but if you would like to share your .story file here, I would be happy to take a closer look for you and make some suggestions.

Please use the ADD ATTACHMENT button in the bottom left corner of the reply box in the thread, and you can browse for the file from there. Please also note that if you reply via email, your attachment will not appear here in the thread. Thanks! :)

Hi, Mitchell -- Thanks for your patience. I was able to take a look at your file, and I wanted to share the following:

Prev and Next Buttons Show During Quiz Review

When learners review a quiz (or revisit question slides they've already submitted), they'll see Articulate Storyline's built-in Prev and Next buttons in the lower right corner of the player—even if you've disabled them throughout your course. These navigation buttons are necessary for learners to review quiz slides.

If you'd like to have an option to disable the Prev and Next buttons during quiz review so you can use your own custom navigation buttons, please let us know. We value your feedback.

I also wanted to add, if you want to change the default Next button trigger to jump to next scene, you will need to:

1. Have the next button show - maybe disable it until you get into review

2. Add another slide in with a trigger to jump to the next scene upon timeline start

Hope that helps! :)
