Right click not working as expected

Feb 09, 2015

Hi, I'm building a software simulation, which is used as an assessment.

The first screen requires the user to right click to bring up a context menu, and it works fine, taking them on to the next screen which shows the menu. However, they are supposed to only get two pops at it, with a try again layer coming up first time, and a incorrect layer coming up the second.

This doesn't work well. If users use a left click, either on, or away from the hotspot, it won't submit the response and they get multiple tries. However, they can right click away from the hotspot and get the correct two tries only.

I think it's down to the 'Submit on Right click' option that's on the hotspot, but I need this to respond to the wrong answers regardless of a right or left click.. any advice please? (Screenshot attached).

Thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Sorry - when I said any click, I meant the option shown in your first screen shot for "on click" - as that would be wherever the user clicked. Since you have it set up to only submit based on the user right clicking on that hotspot, that's the only thing that'll be counted as a submission. You don't need a submit button - but I was referring to the triggers on the right hand side of the screen, as you could also indicate there if there was a specific action that would allow the user to submit the interaction.

HI Ashley,

I've just revisited this, and it's still causing me problems, mainly due to my lack of understanding I think...

It will now do the right click action ok if I put it up on the LMS, having published it for the LMS, but error messages don't seem to be working properly... I get the try again screen, but no wrong answer, just continuous try again screens.

I've extracted one of the two screens that I'm having issues with and posted it up. Any chance you could take a look and send me some enlightenment? :-)

Thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul,

You've got a trigger set up to show the layer "try again" when the user clicks outside the hotspot. So that'll force you to see that layer regardless of attempts - what you'll want to do is set up a number variable on the try again layer, and adjust the variable by one on each visit - and then you could have a condition associated with your trigger to show the incorrect layer if the user clicks outside the hotspot and the "Attempts" variable you've created is equal to 2.

I attached a copy and made adjustments just to the first slide.

Thanks Ashley, that seemed to work fine..  but..

If they left click where they should right click then it doesn't work properly. So I replicated your triggers, and tweaked them for the left click action, as that would also be wrong, but it goes straight to the 'incorrect' layer. I've even tried resetting the attempt count,  but I'm still not having any luck... :-/

I've swapped out your slides with the ones I'm using and attached it...

Thanks very much for your help on this, it's really appreciated
