RIght-Click option NOT working in Simulations

Aug 21, 2015

I am working on development of some system simulations and need to use the Right-click option on some slides. I have instructions to Right-click in a field and have the Trigger set to "Jump to next slide when the user right-clicks". However, when Previewing the simulation, the right-click action is not working.

At first I thought maybe it was something wrong with my mouse or system, but I had a co-worker try the same feature and he said it didn't work for him either.

I haven't tried Publishing this project yet but figured if it didn't work in Preview mode, it probably won't work when published either.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Is anyone still having issues in the preview window with the right click trigger even after the version 7 update noted above?

Im trying to use a hotspot which when right clicked adds a layer to my current layer. I noticed people are/were having issues with this on a base layer slide which sounds like it has been fixed, but maybe this is still an issue on layers over the top of the base one? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the update numerous times, and deleted and recreated the trigger also with no luck.

Help?

Hi, Jason -- Thanks for reaching out, and sorry to hear that issues persist! As it sounds like you have already run through the troubleshooting steps listed here with no improvement, I think it might be best if you were able to connect with our Support Engineers directly. Please use this form to share your file and I will be on the lookout for your case to follow along and share updates here for others who may benefit. :)

Hi Jason,

I see that you and Wilbert communicated back and forth about this, and it seems that you were using the right click behavior on your slide layers - and as such it was still not working based on the known issue with our QA team currently. Using the right click behavior on the base slide layer is our recommendation at this time, and we'll continue to keep you posted on what our team finds out about adding it to the slide layers.

Hi Katrin,

The right click function does only work on the base slide, not a slide layer.

We have reported it to our team, and continue to keep an eye on it to evaluate how many customers are impacted and what impact it has on courses. The number of customers and depth of impact are two of the elements that help us prioritize bugs and fixes.

Here's some more detail about how we tackle bugs. I'm really sorry that I can't say if this issue will be fixed but you're in the right place to stay updated on this bug's progress.

Hi,

I am having a similar issue on Storyline 360 on my base layer. It works fine locally and on Articulate Review but as soon as I publish it and put it up on Moodle, the right click functionality stops working. This could be a deal breaker for us here as we were already concerned about the scroll bar issue on simulations and now we have this issue which seems to have been around for years and still hasn't been solved. Is there any progress on a solution?

Hi Derek,

Is the right click trigger on your base slide or your slide layer? The issue with that trigger not working on the base layer has been fixed, but the slide layers themselves don't support the right click trigger.

You mentioned it work on Review, so I'm also curious if you've tested outside your LMS? I'd recommend using a site like SCORM Cloud - it's a standard for LMS testing. This article will get you started!

Let us know how it behaves there and we'll use that info to troubleshoot further.

Hi Ashley,

The right click action was not responding on the base layer. I actually
deleted the hotspot that was created when I recorded the screen, put a
shape there instead, and used that as a trigger to move the next slide. It
appears that the issue was related to the hotspot.

I tested it locally,on Articulate Review on SCORM cloud and it appears to
work fine on all of them. I created a test on our LMS and if you right
click several times, eventually, it will work. It is very strange
behaviour. Has the bug been addressed in Storyline 360?

Kind regards,
Derek

Hi Derek,

I don't see it reported yet for Storyline 3 or 360 - and if it's working in SCORM Cloud, I'd reach out to your LMS team to see if there is any issues with right clicking? Scorm Cloud is an industry standard for LMS testing, so if it works there it's likely not an issue in the Storyline file.

Perhaps it is also the browser you were using in conjunction with your LMS. I know some LMS's can be specific about browsers so you may want to try one of the other options that Storyline 360 supports.

Definitely feel free to keep us posted!
