I am trying to change the state of a text box (also tried as a shape with test, and as an image) to rotate from horizontal to vertical when dragged into a vertical drop box. While trying to edit the state, the rotate features are grayed out and unavailable. If I try to just make the text box or shape vertical while editing, the text in the box or shape disappears when previewed. Any help?
Michael is correct. I find this a little frustrating about states. Any changes such as this need to be done ahead of time on the slide, before you cut and paste them into the state.
One thing you can do is replace an image within a state, which might be useful at some point.
I'd agree with Jason's last point - I typically replace an image within the state if I need it to be rotated or similar. You're also welcome to share your thoughts in the form of a feature request here.

You have to rotate objects BEFORE you cut&paste them into a state.
