Running Articulate Storyline on HD computer screen

Jul 27, 2014

Hi, I realy need help.

I had a 17' laptop with a normal screen and upgraded last week to an ultrabook, Acer 13.3' screen. It is a high definition screen and the screen resolution is at 2560 x 1440 at standerd.

Articulate storyline, and it is the only program that does this, makes everyting very, very small. It also messed up all the data dat I alreade did on articualte storyline. I set the resolution to al lower resolution, but it does not help.

I also changed the size af all items under the display and still this does not help at all.

I can not work on it now. I uploaded two pictures so that you could have an idea of my problem.

Please help??

Hi Tom,

Is it just this one .story file or are you able to see it in multiple files? If it's just this one file, it may have an element of corruption associated with it or something as simple as changing the story size cause things to not appear where you originally set them up. For corruption you'd want to look at the items here that could cause that behavior and then I'd also look at importing it into a new file to see if that helps resolve the odd behavior.

If it's the story size, you'd be able to move the items around to replace them where you'd like and you may want to review the information here about how changing the story size will change the layout of items already included.

I also find this really disappointing that Articulate have not yet sorted this out. Changing the DPI simply isn't a solution, as it affects quite literally every other thing that the user does with their machine (for example, changing that setting on my Surface Pro 4 makes every piece of text far too small for me on every application and within the OS itself, which means I have to then reduce the resolution of my device which then introduces a mild blurriness to the display and reduces my screen real estate.

I'm fortunate(!) that my work PC has an older display and still runs Articulate correctly, but I don't see how I can continue to run Articulate on my Surface until this is fixed. I'm assuming Articulate 360 will work correctly, but I hope that doesn't mean those of us sticking with v2 will be forgotten about and that this display issue will finally be resolved.

This thread goes back a very long time and it seems the issues discussed have still not been been resolved. Naively, I recently purchased a 32" HD screen, thinking it would make working with Articulate a lot more comfortable than working with the 23" screen I had been using before. Actually for page content it does. However the toolbar, scene and trigger sections of the screen are so small that it makes working with them extremely uncomfortable. Would it be possible to get the status of where you are in getting this problem resolved ie. insuring that the Articulate layout adjusts in a optimum manner to the size of the screen we are using.

Thanks

Donna

Hi Donna,

Articulate 360 was released in mid November of 2016, and we were able to get the fix for the high resolution monitors in that version and it'll be something that you'll see in Storyline 3 when it's released later this year.  I'd encourage you to give Articulate 360 a try and see how that one works for you, and if you can't use a subscription service you'll see the same fix in Storyline 3.

Based on the previous information shared by Simon, our team still hasn't determined a way to port that fix back to Storyline 2 based on the intensive time, resources and possible issues of changing the way the UI behaves.

I know that's not the answer you want to hear while using Storyline 2, and I'm really sorry that the issue is causing you such difficulties. I know our Success team would be happy to talk through the options with you if you wanted to reach out to them here.

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for your answer and I probably will give Articulate 360 a try as I'm doing quite a lot of development work right now and am interested in seeing what it has to offer compared to Storyline 2 which I've been using for the last couple of years. If it really does resolve the screen resolution issue, that will be an obvious bonus.

Thanks and best regards

Donna

I trialed the Storyline 3 upgrade this week and can confirm that it works perfectly with the HD screen, in my case a 32" screen.

However, I didn't see too much to get excited about otherwise. The Dial is nice but not that different from the existing sliders. However I haven't had time to test everything yet so maybe there are other things that make it a good investment.

Hi, Donna!

Storyline 3 has 35 new features, including our new responsive mobile player, vastly improved HTML5 output, HTML5-first and HTML5-only publishing options, closed captioning, dial interactions, and new triggers events and motion path options for enhanced interactivity. We’re also adding a tables feature soon.  Click here to compare features across versions.

If continuous feature updates are important to you, then we recommend you consider Articulate 360, which includes Storyline 360. Storyline 360 will always be the latest version of Storyline and is continuously updated with new features. Learn more about Articulate 360 and sign up for a free trial here.
