Safari Issues

Jan 03, 2019

Hello, our company authors in Storyline a lot, but we are running into some significant issues with how our SL's are rendering in Safari.

We are testing in High Sierra and Mojave MacOS systems and with Safari 12.0.02. There are two main issues:

1. Layering: objects appear to layer fine in Chrome/Firefox but in Safari it varies. When viewing in MacOS High Sierra the problem seems to correct itself and/or we have had to rebuild the slide another way to get it to work. In Mojave there is random layer issues. See attached. Also I think related to layering .... the volume control on the classic player appears behind the presentation area in Safari, no problem in Chrome. See attached.

2. Blurring: text is much more blurry in Safari than Chrome. We tried different players, removing all compression, etc...still blurry. See attached.

I have found posts of others with these same issues, but no clear solutions seem to be available.

Thanks for any insights you can provide. Annesa

Hello Annesa,

Thanks for reaching out and letting us know what you are running into with your courses. Let's tackle these findings together.

  1. You mention layering, but are these objects on different layers or is the object arrangement (front/back) not working as intended here? Would you be able to share a .story file so that we can take a look at this?
  2. We have an open issue for the volume slider appearing behind slide contents when the Player size is set to 'scale player to fit browser window'. I'll attach this conversation to the report along with your included image.
    • Workaround is to: Change the Player size setting to "Lock player at optimal size"
  3. We are tracking an issue with blurriness in Safari. I'll attach this conversation to the report along with your example so that we can update you here when we can.
    • The same workaround above may help with this issue as well.

Hello Leslie, thank you so much for getting back to me.

Locking the player did help with the audio volume and blurriness issue.

As for the layer issue, I have tested again with updated Mojave and I am no longer getting the problem. The layering is on objects on different layers vs. a front/back arrangement on the same layer. Here is one of the files where I was getting an issue and the previous comparison images I took from OS High Sierra and Mojave.

All the best,

Annesa

We did some testing today and we think the issue with the layering also has to do with the sizing of the window to the browser setting.  If we do a CMD-0 and reset any zoom to the original aspect ratio of the SL the layering works as expected, or if we republish with the "lock player at optimal size" option.  Thanks for all your help.
