Save Slide as PDF and Email

Hi everyone,

I've spent a lot of time looking at the existing discussions on generating certificates and using Java to save a slide as a pdf/jpeg/png, as well as capturing that information in a mailto link. I have very limited java experience and am not sure how to proceed.

Essentially, I want to (1.) save a slide (PDF or jpeg/png) and (2.) Create a mailto link allows the learner to attach it.

If someone could point me in the direction of a post that has accomplished this in a way that can be replicated I would very greatly appreciate it!

Thanks,

Jason

Hi Jason,

You can use  pdfMake to create the PDF. See here for an example.

In order to do this you'll need to spend some time getting familiar with how pdfMake works

Creating a mailto link can be as simple as adding a hyperlink that looks like this:

mailto:matt@matthewbibby.com

Or you can build on that to include a subject line, e.g:

mailto:matt@matthewbibby.com?Subject=Hey%20Matt%21

Or even body text as well:

mailto:matt@matthewbibby.com?Subject=Hey%20Matt%21&Body=Did%20you%20enjoy%20rewatching%20LOTR%20the%20other%20day%3F

You can use this Mailto Code Generator to help with making mailto links.

Or if you need to take variables from Storyline and pass those to the email, see this tutorial.

Unfortunately it isn't possible to generate a PDF and have it attach itself to a mailto link (without using an external server). So learners would need to manually attach it.

Yell out if you need any help with this stuff.
