I have diferents slides in my project. When I close the windows and come back to the course, I can see that the last saved variables was the saved in the slide before.
Its possible force to save in a diferent accions with a JS and LMSComit().
This is not a Javascript solution, and I'm not sure if this will work for variables or not, but you may want to give it a whirl to see if it'll meet your needs: Save the States on a Slide Upon Resume in Storyline.
Otherwise, I'll leave this one in the hands of the Javascript gurus. :)
