Now a days I find myself insert a HTML5 web page objects and using my CSS3 transitions, requestAnimationFrame and audio.currenttime to do most of my slides. Most of the time I just use storyline as a LMS shell to count slides or results. I cover the web object with a transparent shape so to add storyline text or shapes over top of it. Seems weird but I have total control.

Sorry Mark, not out of the box. It doesn't mean there isn't a work around, like using states, but not easy for sure.

You can also create your animation in PowerPoint and export it as a video, which you can insert into SL.
