I am trying to have my slide score function such that the user has three attempts to click on the correct hotspot answer before they lose points. As of now, no matter how I construct the settings, you lose points on the first attempt. How can I change this?
I would create a variable for the number of attempts. For the sake of this discussion, we'll call the variable "Attempt1" Then, you will need two triggers:
The first trigger should only submit the interaction If the question is correct, or Attempt1 = 3
The second trigger should increase Attempt1 by 1 if an incorrect answer is submitted.
do you have the attempts set to 3 so when they try first click they get try again layer, 2nd incorrect click - try again layer, 3rd click - correct layer
I would love to, however, I am dealing with sensitive information so I am unable to load a file. I will try a few things and see if I can get it to work!
Hi, Nikki -- Sometime those who are not able to share their actual files due to confidentiality issues will find that they are still able to receive assistance from the community if they post a sample file that illustrates the behavior/issue (or even a pared down version with sensitive material omitted). :)
Hi, Nikki -- That would be great, and if case you were not aware, I also wanted to mention that you do have the option to share your file for confidential review using this link, where it will only be accessible by Articulate staff. The choice is yours! :)
Thank you everyone for your help. I think I may have figured this out, and perhaps someone can confirm?
I have my quiz set up now such that if they click on the correct answer they receive 2 points. If they don't click the correct answer after 3 tries, they won't receive any points. I am assuming that this is essentially the same outcome?
In other words, you have ten questions. They miss one of the attempts after three tries, and therefore they have 9/10 correct or a score of 90.
Am I making a correct assumption?
Or do you need to assign negative points to the missed attempts still?
Hi, Nikki -- So, could I please ask for clarification as to whether or not you want to assign negative values for missed questions? You would be able to do so if you'd like, as outlined here in this article on Assigning a Score to Graded Questions. Does that answer your question or help you accomplish what you have in mind?

Hello Nikki!

That should do it. I hope this helps.
Hi Nikki
do you have the attempts set to 3 so when they try first click they get try again layer, 2nd incorrect click - try again layer, 3rd click - correct layer
see sample attached.
Hi Preston and Wendy - thank you for your help!
I have tried the 3 attempts setting, but it didn't work. I will try the variable option next. :)
Hi Preston,
One question - I have removed the submit button. Is there a way to achieve the same outcome without a Submit button?
Thanks!
It should work. You're just applying a condition to whatever trigger you are using to submit the interaction.
Hi Nikki
upload your story file - easier for someone to help if they can see your setup

Thank you!
Hi Nikki
perhaps give us a bit more information to try and help if you can't upload the slide - otherwise we make assumptions that may not be correct
You have an image that has one hotspot?
You have this set up as a freeform quiz question OR just a normal slide with an image and hotspot?
You are using the player 'submit' button or custom 'submit' button?
Are they getting immediate feedback on the choice and a try again layer between attempts?
Are you using custom scoring?

Hi Christie,
Thank you. I think it may be an even bigger problem now. I will see if I can upload a generic file.
