Score recording wrongly

May 20, 2019

Hello guys,

On the company i work, we use storyline to develop training modules, as a way to transfer knowledge and etc...

These days, while doing some tests on a training, we've founded out, that the score recording of storyline is kind of wrong, to calculate the score of the person that is doing the evaluation, it takes into account only the questions that were answered, and not the full amount of quenstions on the question bank, for example:

If i have 10 questions on the QB, and i answer only 1 rigthly, the calculation of the score should be:

1/10 : 10% (as i have answered only one question of the total amount of 10)

but what really happens is:

1/1 : 100% (it records a score of 100% because it takes into account only the questions that i've made (1) and not the total amount i have on the QB (10).

I hope i have managed to explain the problem that we have here, do someone know how to "fix" this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Hello, Guilherme! It does sound like something is going wrong with the Result Slide calculation, so I'm glad you reached out.

The best way to get help is to share your file with our team. That way, we can take a closer look at how you designed the quiz.

If that works for you, you can upload your file privately to our support team here. They'll delete it when they're done troubleshooting.

Hello Alyssa, thanks for the reply!!

I've founded a solution for my problem, let me try to explain:

Every training we have here, we have topics where the operator do, and we have questions on this topics (not graded, only to train), at the end of this training, we have an evaluation that consists on a Question Bank gathering all the questions on these topics.

Our problem was:

If we have a training that has an evaluation at the end with 5 questions.
If the operator answer only 1 question (rigthly) , and close the training, the result sent to the LMS is 100% of score, because he have answered rigthly the only question he have made, so the calculation made is like:
1/1 = 100% of score.
But, it should considerate all the 5 questions that i've put into the QB, and send to the LMS a score of 20%:
1/5 = 20% of score.

I don't know if this is the standard calculation that storyline does, or if there is a way to correct it, i've looked a lot here on the discussions but haven't found anything like it.

The way i find to do the "correct" calculation, is create a new QB (i'll call this QB2) with the same number of questions of the QB1, but all the questions on this QB2 are the "numeric entry" type, so when the operator answer a question (on QB1) rigthly, a trigger adds +1 to the variable "NumericEntry1" related to a numeric entry question on QB2, and olny after he answers all the question on QB1, the QB2 submits all the questions interactions automatically (using triggers), and this result that is reported on the Result slide, and consequently to the LMS.

Like that, if the operator answers only one question on the QB1 and close the module, there will be no score sent to the LMS (because the questions interactions on the QB2 are only submited after he answers all the questions on QB1).

I've sent the .story file to the link you posted (both with and without the changes i've made).

Thats it, i hope i managed to be clear, if you have any other sugestion, i'd be glad to read it.

Thanks!
