SCORM 1.2: Recording finish without test

Jan 22, 2014

Hello,

I have a client who needs to have the course I produced published to a SCROM 1.2 version for their LMS. I have done this successfully however, since there is no test at the end of my course the LMS company is saying that they cant track when the person is completed with the course. I tried to convince them to use a TIN CAN api but they wont budge in that direction.

I was going to put some sort of arbitrary button at the end that they have to push to go to the next slide and tie that into a "test" so the LMS picks up something, but I feel that is a bit hacky.

If you have any suggestions on how I can accomplish this, that would be great.

Hi Will,

That sounds a bit.. odd :)

Are you not able to use the option to track by number of slides viewed, at all, for this LMS?

I wonder if you could "mask" a quiz slide and have the "Next" button (or whatever button you're using for navigation) trigger a submission.

What type of content are you working with? Is there no option for a review, or quick quiz at the end?

Hello Christine,

Yeah, it is a bit odd. The client has a third party LMS company handling this and I really dont know their capabilities.

Can you explain further what you mean by "mask" a quiz slide?

The content is interactive, informational and they did not want a quiz at the end, just a PDF that the person prints out and turns in.

Thank you for your help.

Hi Will,

Here's an example of how I would mask a quiz in a course that doesn't require a quiz:

  • Insert a freeform "Pick One" quiz slide or convert an existing slide to freeform.
  • Draw 2 shapes (required for the question type) and select one of those shapes as the correct answer.
  • Select "None" for the feedback option.
  • Set the shapes off of the slide, in the "grey area".
  • Create a new trigger that will change the state of the "Correct" shape to selected, when the timeline starts.
  • Change the trigger for "Submit Interaction" to the "Next" button, instead of the "Submit" button - you may need to enable the "Next" button if it's not already activated. Or you can tie this to a different object in your slide that you're using for navigation.

I created a very quick example file for you. Now, I added the results slide, simply so you could see that it is scoring as correct after the question has been submitted using our "sneaky" method.

If you need to track using a results slide, you could also do the same thing. Just place your content over what would be displayed to the user. You can also disable the retry/review options as well.

Let me know if this works for you :)
