SCORM/Tin Can/iPad/Tablet/Moodle LMS

Oct 26, 2017

I'm using Moodle as an LMS. Content is created in Storyline 2, published as a SCROM file with Flash and posted to the LMS. Are there any updates as to whether Storyline 2 SCORM files with flash can be accessed using a tablet or iPad?

Thanks

Sandy

I'm just not up to date as to whether the files are TIN CAN compliant. Will I have any issues with reporting completion? I know there is a known issue with how SCORM files communicate with Moodle - there are times when users complete a unit/SCORM package but will get a grade of 0. I'm trying to understand if there is a solution to this issue and whether the SCORM files are compatible and supported in android and iOS devices. I guess I'm including another inquiry to my initial question.

Hi Sandy!

First, let's tackle your tablet/iPad question. If you've included HTML5 in the published output, you don't need the Articulate Mobile Player. The course will play in the mobile browser--Safari in Apple iOS 7 and later, Google Chrome (latest version) in Android OS 4.1 and later.

Now, on to your reporting question. Course data should be reported correctly, no matter what you choose for the LMS output option. If you find that the course isn't reporting data correctly in Moodle, we'd want to test it in another environment to nail down whether it's a file issue or a Moodle issue.

Let me know if you're having reporting troubles, and I can help you with that testing!

Hi Alyssa

I've tested opening SCORM using safari in Apple iOS 11. When I click on the SCORM and progressed through a few slides, I got a message regarding internet connection and at times if I clicked a menu tab, it would restart and ask me to resume where I left off. I would click yes and it would take me to the beginning. Is this normal behaviour?

Thanks
Sandy

Hmmm, that doesn't sound like expected behavior- thanks for letting us know, Sandy. I'd love to dig in a little deeper here.

Have you tried testing your course out in SCORM Cloud to see if the same issues happen when the course is hosted there? Here's how.

That'll give us a better idea whether it's file or LMS related.

I'm also happy to help with testing if you can share your .story file here as an attachment to a comment.

Really appreciate it!
