I created a sample screen recording and published the file. Go to the published file folder > story_content folder and you will see your video there. I then copied it to the desktop and could run it independently of SL.
Ashley, I do not have the options as described in your link to "Export Video" or "Save Frame" whenever I right click on the preview window of my screen recording. However, Wendy's recommendation did work.

This thread is a bit older, so I'd want to just confirm what update and version of Storyline you're using - the latest is Storyline 2 Update 8. And you may want to review the information here in regards to the screen recordings.
