Screen recording issues (ESC doesn't work, doesn't record)

Oct 06, 2015

Hi there

I'm having some problems doing a screen recording (something I've done many times before!).  When I go to record the screen, I set all the settings, size etc. and press the red record button.  I then perform the activity I wish to record.  When I press 'Escape' to stop the recording, it doesn't seem to stop.  If I then click on the Articulate icon in the bottom toolbar, it 'looks' like it's working (saving etc.) but when you see the results it's just 1 slide containing a black screen of a few seconds - the activity hasn't been recorded.  Note: clicking on the Articulate icon is the only way I've managed to get out of it.  Also, if I try to change the hotkey to another button, it doesn't register anything I press.

I can only think this has something to do with the machine I'm using.  I'm remoting into my client and working on Articulate Storyline 2 that I've had installed on the remote computer (through Citrix).  They have rather stringent security settings, so I couldn't even go into Task Manager when I was trying to get out of the 'stalled' screen recording.  However, I've worked on another machine there before and it worked just fine - I was able to do screen recordings on that one.

Any ideas?

Kind regards
Robyn

Hi, Robyn -- I think you may have already determined the source of the issue you are having when you mentioned that you are remoting into your client's machine to perform the work. We always recommend that you work from your own local C: drive to avoid odd or erratic behavior and potential file corruption.

Please let us know if that does the trick for you or if issues persist. :)

Hi Christie - thanks for that.  Unfortunately, do to the nature of the company I'm working for, I have to work on their servers.  They won't let the content off site.  Plus I'm also located in a different country :)  But we figured out that it was an issue with the Citrix instances - the application I was trying to record was on a different instance to the Articulate application.  Nevertheless, they sorted out a different solution for me, so all good.

I appreciate your response!

@Christie Pollick : I am having similar issues to Robyn. When I start a recording, I can't stop it with ESC on my Windows machine. The red border is still showing, indicating there is an active recording session and when I click on the main PEEK icon, I get a small "Paused" modal in the middle of the screen being recorded, but I can't figure out how to stop the recording. There are no controls visible anywhere to make any changes. I have had to completely stop the process using TaskMan in order to get out of the operation.
