Screen Recording - Manual

May 31, 2012

I am trying to record a screen where the content on screen is within another application window so changes aren't automatically detected.  (for example using vmware or an application that will allow you to display your mobile phone screen on your desktop).  If I use the option to insert as a video it works fine but I want to be able to use the step by step version but it only shows one screenshot.  I have tried using the PrintScreen button to take additional screenshots but this doesn't seem to work.  In captivate I can do this using Manual Recording and pressing to take additional screenshots where required.  Is there any way to make this work in Storyline?

Hi Rois,

(Sorry for not giving an answer) but I am facing the same kind of situations.

I always capture software remotely connected to other computers..and with Cp I could handle the capture with Manual recording or by a click on the screen to add a user action that I would delete afterwards..

i am really interested in any solution you found or got given for this pb..

I also noticed SL recording adding ...more caption text than I would need or would have done...I have this 'Press' caption appearing in my video..maybe from when the system automatically switches from an application to another (which step I know but users does not and does not need to know or does not need to do anything)....wierd....

Thank you for sharing any information on this recording!

Julie B.

did u try adding an action that you would delete after?

I finally also noticed in captivate I had the text typing movement in the field where I would write something...

however with SL I lose this effet, my text appear very quicly, not a real typed-effect and on the contrary to CP, it seems I cannot manage to change the speed of the text-typed-....

I am right?

I am presently preparing a more complete post with specific questions on the recording experience I had...

If there is functionality that you're looking for with the recording feature, you can always submit a feature request. Articulate is very good about looking at these requests for future updates.

One thing to keep in mind is that Articulate Storyline is not going to do everything that other software will. Captivate is designed to be screen recording software so it will have functionality specifically designed for that.
