Screen Recording present a strange error

Jul 18, 2017

Hi,
I'm doing a step-by-step training of a system. It splits itself into slides and clicks, as it should be.

However, some slides have presented a strange error. It looks normal initially, but when I preview it appears as another slide. The actions and clicks that were made continue, but on the random slide.

I'm sending two images for better understanding. (1- When I see the slide/ 2- When I preview it).

Is there a solution or is it a bug?

Hi Bruna,

You mentioned seeing it normally on the slide, but that preview is when things appear odd, so I'd also want to know what happens when you preview each slide individually? Does that show things correctly?

Are you recording through a web browser or is that an application installed on your computer?

It could be that the screen data (clicks and mouse interactions) isn't being reported correctly into Storyline. If you're recording through a browser I'd recommend using Internet Explorer (latest version you can) to open the site vs. Chrome as the latter doesn't provide as rich a data set.

It's difficult to tell from the images alone what we're supposed to see, but if you'd like to share a copy of the .story file (even a few slides that have the behavior) I'm happy to take a look! You can upload it here using the "Add Attachment" button.

Hi Ashley,

When I preview each slide individually still happens that error and show the odd slide.

I'm recording throught a web browser. I'm already using Internet Explorer, because the system only works in it.

I had separated a few slides that show the problem for you and added attachmante here.

I'm already making a temporary solution to get around the situation, using static images of what the screen should look like and putting it on top of the screen recording. So it keeps at least the mouse interaction and it looks like it's clicking in the right place. I left it hidden so you could see what happens.

I appreciate the help :)

Hello Bruna!  Thank you so much for attaching your file.

I could see that on some of those slides, it appeared to revert to the first frame of the screen recording, rather than show the appropriate action for each slide.  I had never seen that behavior before.

We have previously documented an issue with larger screen recordings that revert back to the opening frames.  Your screen recording is about 6 1/2 minutes, and when I went to insert it again as step-by-step, it was creating 203 slides.

Are you able to break up the screen recording into smaller chunks?  Also, where do you save your projects?  You'll want to be sure to save them to your local C: drive to avoid any risk of corruption to the file.

Let me know what you think about those options!
