Screen recordings don't display properly when app is resized

Jul 17, 2012

Greetings,

I just downloaded a trial version of Storyline, and have been trying some things.  At first, it looked as if screen recordings were not working properly (I could take the recording, but when previewed I would see nothing but streaks of shifting color, with occasional glimpses of what I had actually recorded).

After much wailing and gnasing of teeth (and repeated testing), I have determined that:

- If I start the screen record, position the recording frame over my application, and then resize the recording frame to match the application -- everything works fine.

- If I start the screen record, position the recording frame over my application, and then resize the application to match the recording frame -- I get the garbage described above.

I'd like to get a consistent recording size -- so sizing the app to the recording frame would be easier.  However, I can't get it to record.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled flash, and uninstalled and reinstalled Storyline.  I sent to screenr.com to try the same thing (since the Storyline record feature seems to be based on that) -- and if I use screenr.com, I can resize either the recording frame or the app with no problems.

Has anyone else run into this, and are there any ideas?  I've search the forum and FAQs, but can't find reference to it.

Thanks,

Deborah

Hi Deborah,

Ignore my first posting here that was sent in a notification to your email. I went off on a tangent  that I just remembered wasn't possible to do once the recording started. I had read your first post right after all.

Here is my update. I am still unable to replicate the issue. You might want to think about contacting support. It seems to be an issue regarding your computer and the installation/reinstallation of Storyline, considering Screenr works just fine. You are, however correct about you having plenty of resources when it comes to your computer's technical specs. They are probably not the problem.

The above is an edit of my initial post.

Hi Adrian,

Thank you for trying.  I did contact technical support (who gave me instructions on uninstalling, cleaning the registry, and re-installing).  I wrote back and provided them the details once I figured out the circumstances that made it happen on my system.  I had sent them the published version of one of the files I recorded that displays garbage -- they said it displayed fine for them.  So it's pretty clearly something about my system...I just don't know what.  If I understood the difference between how screenr.com works, and its implementation in Storyline, it might provide a clue.  It doesn't make sense to me that it only happens when I use Storyline.

Anyway, I appreciate the attempt!  At least I have a workaround.
