Screen recordings in SL2 after publishing issues...

Nov 22, 2016

Hi Heros,

I recorded several demos in SL2 and in Storyline 360.  After publishing the timing of when items display and their behavior is way off.  I looked at some suggestions from the community which included uninstalling SL2 and the Flashplayer and reinstalling them.  I also updated the Microsoft.NET Framework and ran a sl2Cleanup.bat file to delete the SL registry keys prior to reinstalling SL2 and the supporting software.

In preview mode everything looks good.  But when I publish it and view it in the Articulate Review I get the issues and results mentioned above.

Here is the link to the published SL2 file on Articulate review:  https://360.articulate.com/review/content/7a11425b-535a-454e-891b-308ece47f1fc/review

Thank you,

Ray

Hey Ray!

Happy to see that you're playing around with some of our exciting new tools! I do see what you're mentioning in terms of the timing and behavior on the Review link you shared.

You mentioned that this is a Storyline 2 course you're linking to, correct? Publishing to Review is a brand new feature added in Storyline 360, so I just wanted to make sure that I'm following the process you're using. Was this a recording you made in Storyline 2 that you upgraded to Storyline 360 to publish to Review?

Also, you mentioned you had recorded several demos, are you seeing the same behavior in all of them once published?

Would you be able to share your .story project file here so I can do some testing too? You can add it as an attachment right to a comment in this thread. Thanks! :)

Hi Ali,

Thank you for your response.  Yes they were originally created in SL2.  But in order to view them and let others view them I had to save them as templates in SL2 then import them into SL 360.  It doesn't appear that SL 360 allows for standard SL2 files (story file) to be imported.  They have to be saved as templates in order to be imported into SL 360.  Then I published them to the Articulate Reviewer from SL 360 in order to view and share with others on line via Reviewer.

I also did a screen recording using SL 360.  I got the same jumpy, inconsistent results.

I will attach some files for you to review.

Thanks for sharing your files with me, Ray! I'll be taking a look at them and getting back to you shortly.

In the meantime, I would recommend opening your Storyline 2 file right in Storyline 360. When you do, you'll be prompted to upgrade your file to Storyline 360 and a backup of your Storyline 2 course will be created as well. Once it's upgraded to Storyline 360, you can try importing the newly upgraded slides into the Storyline 360 file that you want them in. Let me know how that goes!

Hey there Ray!

Thanks again for sharing your files with me. I did some testing with the Storyline 2 file you shared, your Posting a Requisition file. When I opened it in Storyline 2 and previewed it, all appeared normal. I then opened up that file in Storyline 360 and upgraded it. When I previewed it in Storyline 360, I did see some unusual behavior so it appears to happen when the file is upgraded.

I went ahead and set up a case for you with our Support Engineers ( case # 00956418 ) and escalated it so they can work with you to investigate this further. They'll be reaching out to you shortly via email, thanks so much for your continued patience with this! I'll also be keeping an eye on your case and will relay important details back to this thread for anyone who may be following along. :)

Hi Ali,

I published the files as Flash only. That removed the unusual behavior. I hope that the Articulate team can find a fix for the rest of it.

Right now I am using the reviewer feature in SL 360 so that people in my organization can review SL output.

We are a nonprofit and do not have an LMS yet.

We are considering many options and I appreciate your support.

I am a fan of SL and have used it since about 2011.

My biggest fear with any eLearning development tool is that it will break.

I really like it whenb everything works.

Best regards,

Ray
