Screen Recordings Not getting audio

Oct 21, 2013

Hi there,

I am using Articulate Storyline, running update 3 - and am attempting to do a screen recording

Everything works fine, and I have already completed one screen recording but I am now having the following issue:

I am attempting to record a video on how to add an IP address onto a windows machine.  I start the recording, and complete it - but when viewing it, I can hear myself talking until I get to the part about changing the network settings, then the audio goes away completely, and never comes back.

Based on some other articles on this forum, I tried running Articulate as an administrator, and I get about one extra second of audio, and then it's gone....

Any suggestions?

Hi Adam and welcome to Heroes!

Some other things you'll want to check that could cause unusual behavior:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive).Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, includingfile corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory pathto your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters(for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents orsymbols in your file names.

Also, is this happening in every Storyline file where you're recording your screen? If so, you may want to conduct a repair of your Storyline software. If it's just one particular file, try to import it into a new Storyline file.

It only happens when trying to record things like setting an IP address on a PC.  From what I can figure out, it seems to only happen when I get into things that typically require administrative access in windows.  I have a few other screen caps to record, where I will need to use Adminstrative level programs, I haven't tested with those yet to see if the same thing occurs.

If I am recording something using a non-administrative level program, or a web browser as the content, then it works fine..

You can try it yourself - do a screen capture while talking and try to change your computers IP address from a default to static IP and see if you get the same issue...
