Screencast Videos Have Gone Missing

Jan 14, 2015

I've been building a project in Storyline the last couple of days (it's my 1st...learning as I go) and successfully created an initial Scene using a series of screencast recordings.

I now want to leverage those same recordings in the TRY and TEST screen-by-screen modes, but none of my Screencast recordings are available in the "Record Screen" dropdown. I expected to see thumbnails of the several "In Use" videos I've already used.   Looking for advice, please!

I've been saving versions of this project as I go. I've discovered that the EARLIEST version of the project still has intact videos available for re-use.  So I guess my questions are now more refined:

  1. What might I have done to make the videos disappear?
  2. Is there a way to bring them back? (or, more hopefully, pull them forward into the newest version of the project from the oldest version).

Hi Brad,

I'm sorry to hear about the difficulty you've run into. You'll first want to confirm that you're working on local project files as described here. You could also try importing the existing slides into your new presentation and that should pull the original screen recording too and include it as a part of the record screen drop down.

Thank you, Ashley and Emily, for your good advice. I have been warned by other users in my organization about the importance of working on the hard drive, and I believe I have been diligent in doing so. I will be especially careful going forward.

Ashley's advice about pulling the slides forward from the early file to the original file is a sound approach that is working for me. It seems to underscore, however, the importance of frequent saves and versioning of work files, especially while working with Storyline2.
Cheers!

Brad

Hi Brad,

Thanks for the update - and I'm glad the import is assisting you. Working locally, and the file name/path elements that Emily and I both shared are always good things to be checking in on as they're typically associated with corruption which it sounds like you ran into.
