Screenrecorded content is not moveable within a slide

Mar 22, 2021

Hello everybody,

I recorded the screen, to create a software simulation (testmode). Everything works fine, except one thing ... the created content is not moveable within the slide. Thats a problem, cause Storyline places the content exactly in the middle of the page, what I don't need. We have to show our corporate design on every slide, so I have to move the recorded content to the bottom of the slide.

Is it me in combination with a monday, or is it really not possible to move the content within the slide, like a picture or other elements?

Thanks in advance for your help and greetings from munich/germany :)

Hi, René.

Thank you for reaching out!

When you do a screen recording in Try Me mode, that recording acts as the background of the slide, so it's not possible to re-size or move it.

If you need other elements to show, I would recommend adding them to layers or on top of your screen recording. A workaround would be to record an area larger than the content you want to appear, which would give you room to add objects and the corporate design.

Let me know if this works!

Hi Maria,

thanks for your reply and suggestions.
Unfortenately that doesn't solve my problem. The situation is "opposite down", wich means that the extra content (corporate identity elemenst) is the fixed part of the slide and the recorded screen has to be the moveable part. So, another layer is no solution.

BUT ... I'll try to record a larger area to simulate a different position of the content. The problem is, that the extra space has to be transparent, cause the background of the slide is not just white.

To be honest ... I think this issue is a big failure of the Storyline software, cause the user has absolutely no chance to individualise his recorded content. Maybe the workaround works, but it is a huge effort.

Anyway ... if you're interested in the result of my "experiment", I'll post it in this conversation.

Have a great day :) Greetings from munich/germany ...

Hello René!

I appreciate you taking the time to share this with us! I can see how individualizing screen recording content would be a beneficial addition to Storyline 360. I'm going to share this with our team. It sounds like you're looking to move objects in the screen recording. Don't hesitate to add additional details that I can share with our team.

Thanks René for your help!
