Screenshot Disappears

May 08, 2013

I've been inserting frame-by-frame animations into my lessons. Occasionally when I preview the lesson a screenshot will disappear half way through the frame timing. In the Timeline area there is not a line for the screenshot. I do not see a way to tell it to "Show Until End". The best solution I have come up with is to duplicate the frame and then shorten the timing on both screens to stop before the screenshot disappears. Can you tell me a better way to solve this problem? Thanks,

Welcome to the community, Robert!

You mentioned that the screenshot will only disappear occasionally. So, it does display correctly most of the time, correct? Have you noticed anything different about how you're interacting with the slide when this happens?

I'm having a little difficulty visualizing what's happening with your project. Any chance you can share the .STORY file here?

Thanks and welcome again!

Hi Christine,

I clipped and attached a scene that shows the problem. Please refer to frame 1.2. When I preview the scene, If this frame is longer that 3 seconds the screenshot disappears. Do you know why this would be happening? I only seem to have this problem occur once every two weeks or so but cannot determine a rhyme or reason to why it happens on certain screens.

Hi there Robert,

Thanks for the file!

I'm not entirely sure, but it looks like most of the steps recorded only had about 3 seconds recorded. For example, if you look at all of the slides after 1.2, they're set to 3 seconds. This may be because each step is cut down to 3 seconds, or that's how quickly the steps were taken when this was recorded.

It also looks like the timeline may have been extended past the 3 second mark (the time that was recorded)

You cannot actually select the background image, because Storyline "melds" the recorded image with the background of the slide. However, what you could do is take a screenshot of that image and place it behind the original on the timeline. This way, if you need to extend the timeline, it will still be on the slide when the other image fades away. Or, you can try allowing a little more time between each action and see if that helps.

I did create a screenshot of the image, as I suggested earlier, and added it to that slide. Take a look and see if that works for you.

Thanks!
