Search Function - Indexing Notes and Other Hidden Text

Sep 17, 2014

Is there any way to exclude text content from the built in Search function in Storyline? It appears that the Search indexes the contents of hidden layers and lists a hit in the list - when clicked jumps to the slide with the found text but doesn't actually show it.

Hi Chris,

There isn't a way to change the search behavior of Storyline - as it's searching all slide content and slide notes. In terms of not showing the text, I'm not clear on what you mean - is it because you've hidden the text within the slide?

If you need something custom, hopefully some of our community members can chime in with suggestions.

Ashley, thanks for your reply. The reason I was looking for a way to exclude text from the search index is that some of our Instructional Designers like to hide layers of text and reveal them after user input - so it's possible to get a search result, navigate to the page and not see the referenced text. The IDs will have to decide which result is best: no search at all or the chance of hidden results. At least now I can go back to them with a definitive answer.
