"Search" function unlocks previously un-visited slides even when Menu is set to Restricted navigation.

Jun 16, 2020

This seems to be something our QA department has just noticed. In a "Locked" SCORM, a user is able to use the Menu Search field to visit slides that previously were locked in the TOC.

Our online learning courses require a user to view the entirety of a slide before clicking the Next button and moving on. With the Restricted Menu, only slides they have visited are clickable. But now it seems that when a user searches for any term a list of slides are now available to be clicked in any order without restriction. A user can skip content and move backwards or forwards from the newly visited slide.

Is this something new? Is this correct behavior? I cannot find anything in the Community Forums regarding this issue.

We cannot allow a Search result to bypass the Restricted navigation. We offer safety training. It is imperative that users NOT be able to skip content in any way.

We are using Storyline 360 v3.37.21614.0

Thanks for any help.

Hello Paul and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

Thank you for contacting us and sharing what you are experiencing in your course.

I see that you worked directly with Jopney on our support team as well and she has reported this issue for us to further investigate.

I've linked this conversation so that we can share updates with you here as well.

Hi Paul!

I just wanted to pop in and share that we've shipped Storyline 360 Update 41 (Build 3.41.22450.0)!

This update includes a fix for the bug you reported!

Fixed: In some cases, the search feature worked inconsistently. In others, learners could use the search feature to jump to unvisited slides when menu navigation was restricted or locked.

Now all you need to do is update your desktop app to make sure you're using the latest version of Storyline 360. Head over here to see what else was included in this update.
