Second file automatically launching in LMS

Jul 22, 2013

I have two separate storyline files that I upload to my LMS.  The first is the course and the second file is an exam that our participants are required to complete.  The exam is not made available until they have viewed at least half of the course slides.  When a participant goes through the course and gets to the last slide and exits out of the file, the second file (exam) is automatically opening up.  I don't want it to do this - I want the participant to actually have to select it to start it.  What I don't know is if this is controlled through Storyline or our LMS.  I feel like it is in the LMS because I cannot find anything in the set up of my storyfile that links it to automatically launching another file at any point, however my LMS support says it's a setting in Storyline.  Looking for help if it is a Storyline setting, or confirmation that it doesn't have anything to do with Storyline.

Thanks!

Good Afternoon, Jenny.

It sounds like you are saying that you've uploaded two separate sets of zipped, published LMS output from Storyline, and that at the end of the first set of output, your learners are being automatically redirected to the second set of output.  You'd like to know if this redirect is a product of your authored Storyline output or if it might be an LMS setting.

Please let me know if I have misunderstood or misstated your inquiry.

Outside of you knowing the URL of your second course and manually adding a hyperlink to it from within your first course, I can't think of any way that Storyline would even know where the second course resides, let alone have any reason to launch it.

A great way to prove whether this is a Storyline content issue or an LMS issue is to test for reproducibility of the behavior in SCORM Cloud, which is an industry-standard tool for testing SCORM output.  If the problem is repeatable in SCORM Cloud, the root cause is (somehow) with your Storyline output.  If the problem is only reproducible within your LMS, you might consider opening a ticket with your LMS provider.

Please let  us know if you need anything else, and have a great day!
