secure videos on storyline

Jun 30, 2014

hi,

i developed a course with storyline. the course is published to web and stored on a vps server.

i want to secure the course from dowloading the files and the videos. my goal is to prevent the cours from being stoled.  the best way to secure videos is by streaming, i understood that streaming is not posibble with storyline.

how can i secure the course and the videos?

I understand that i cant prevent someone from recording the course, but i want to make it difficult as possible to download the files.

Because the course is interactive recording it is not my biggest problem, i am worried that someone will download the files and will be able to distribute or to market the course. My question is what is the best way to protect the files?

There would be little point in trying to secure yourself against redistribution since the courses will still contain your branding.

That depends on a lot of things : how you choose to deploy your courses via Web (i.e. how will your subscribers be playing the files?) and if you are using the Articulate Mobile Player for the iPad.

What you should be more worried about is how to better protect from unauthorized playback. If you are serving the URL's for your courses statically, then I'm afraid there's nothing to stop anyone from sharing that static link via email, a forum, etc. You can't fault Storyline for that - you should be examining a more secure way to host your courses.

Having said that, if you are using the Mobile Player it is very easy to copy most of the contents of the output folder using a Jailbroken iPad. All output subfolders are available. This includes video, audio and swf files. Now this will not make your course easy to "resell", but I could probably recreate the course and whitelabel it if I wanted to.

Hope this helps,
Alex

P.S.: THIS is how easy it is to download any audio or video file from the web (the example in the screenshot is from one of my publicly available portfolio demo's).
