Selecting the right launch page

Dec 03, 2013

Hi there. I just had a question about the different launch pages that are available after publishing with Storyline. So if we want to force our scorms to output in html5, would I simply point to the index_lms_html5.html page instead of the default index_lms.html default launch page? I ask because I read in another document that the scorm would automatically display the scorm depending on which browser or device they're using. I have found that iPad users cannot view our scorms when pointing to the index_lms.html page on Moodle. Many thank in advance for your clarification.

Hi Justin,

I haven't heard that Moodle needs a particular html5 launch page, and we typically recommend that if your LMS requires you point to a specific file that you point to the index_lms.html file.

In regards to how Storyline determines which version of your content to display when learners view it I've included that below:

  • Learners will see the Flash version of your content if their browser supports it.
  • If they're using an iPad and if you chose the Articulate Mobile Player option when you published, they'll see a launch page that allows them to view the course in the iPad app. (And if they don't have the app installed on their iPad yet, they'll see an option to install it.)
  • If they're using an iPad and you didn't choose the Articulate Mobile Player option when you published, but you did choose HTML5, they'll see the HTML5 output in mobile Safari.
  • If they're using some other non-Flash compatible browser and you marked the HTML5 option, they'll see the HTML5 output. (For a list of supported browsers, click here.)
