Self-Directed "Road Map" Using States

Hi, folks! I know there have been posts and videos here about how to add a state in Storyline that allows a self-directed learner to see what topics they have already completed or visited in a course. Can one of you fine people point me to that information? My search has been less than productive but I KNOW I've seen that addressed here before.
