Self Recovery useless

Apr 29, 2020

I am suffering some freezing in Storyline 360 from time to time when I am copyng pictures from PPT, so I activate the  self recovery from 10 minutes to 5 minutes, but don't work.

I got from eLearning Heroes the instructions where to find the "recovered file", but didn't work.

Do you have any other suggestion to really make it functional?

Thanks

Hello Santiago!

I'm happy to help!

When are temp files created in Storyline 360?

Temp files are only created for Storyline files when Storyline crashes or unexpectedly closes. You would need to manually save the .story file at least once to begin the autosaving every 10 minutes for the purposes of autorecovery, and you'd want to check that files are saving locally and adhering to the other guidelines here.

Here's how to find temp files:

1) Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline

2) Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.

3) Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.

4) Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.

Please let me know if you can open the file after these steps!

My Dear  Lauren

I could find the file, thanks, I already did several times in the past

You was very kind, but your help, sad to say, is useless because Storyline Autorecovery never works (at least in my last 2 computers)

And today, after almost 4 hours working, very happy because everything was flowing perfectly, I forgot the huge bugg of Storyline and I tried to paste a picture copied from PPT.

Can you imagine what happens,...., yes, the bloody Storyline freeze and I lost all the job done because the autorecovery didn't work (as usual)

So, if is it possible, for you and maybe for the rest of the Heroes, could be possible to suggest a real eLearning program that work well?

Thanks a lot and have a great and safe aand healthy day

Dear Lauren

I learn something extra that could help your Software designers if they really like to solve the bug.  The temp file is created "immediately" after the Story file was opened, and remains unchanged (doesn't matter if the autorecovery is programmed to save every minute) until the crash/freeze/hanging/etc. of the Storyline.

I have to say, this is working, if the program freeze the .tem file remains in the folder forever, totally useless if you spend hours working, but at least remains unchanged after the last save you did.

Thanks

Thank you for the details, Santiago.

It sounds like you'd like more of an autosave feature.

We don't have an autosave feature, but what Lauren described is our auto-recovery feature. The difference being, that'll it will return you to an earlier version of your course if your Storyline program crashes, but it won't consistently save and have that copy accessible to you if the software freezes or you closed Storyline by accident.

I'll get this feature request submitted for you.
