"Send email to" trigger not working.

Jan 04, 2014

Hello,

I built a course using Storyline and I have a button on the master slide that allows the student to email the instructor. Originally the button had the "jump to url" trigger assigned to it with a piece of code taken from a Mailto URL Encoder that I got from about.com. It does not seem to be working, it will open a new window but the window will be blank and nothing will happen. I tried changing the changing the trigger on the button to  "Send email to"  but that doesn't work at all. I am trying to figure out a way to fix this but I'm stuck right now. I want the student to be able to click the button and it opens up a new browser window or it asks them if they want to use gmail or a default mail client to send the email. Please help!

Thank you,

Sami

Hi Sami,

When adding an email trigger to your Storyline course, be aware that there are certain requirements that must be met by each user’s computer for the trigger to function properly:

  • The user must have an email client installed (for example, Microsoft Outlook), and they must have an account configured in the program.
  • The email client program must allow JavaScripts and HTML submits. Some programs, like Lotus Notes and Groupwise, do not allow these features.  Therefore, they will not work.

Tighter security restrictions in modern web browsers, operating systems, and anti-virus programs can also interfere with this process. We recommend testing your content in its final environment to determine if the email trigger will work for your users.

Hope that helps!

Hi Maciej,

I don't know of a way to use Articulate Online to send emails based on a trigger - and I suspect it would involve some custom functionality if it was possible. The email functionality within Articulate Online is mostly for setting up new users and sending out their password information as detailed here.
