Set a trigger at certain cue point?

Oct 14, 2012

HI, I wish to know if we can set a trigger at cue point. I wish to show up an object at cue point say '6'. How to achieve this?

Hi Shalabh,

To make an object appear at cue point "6", create it on the slide and then drag it, in the Timeline, to appear at the correct place under the Cue Point..

Is this what you mean, or have I misunderstood the question?

Bruce

Thanks for the response Bruce. I mean to say I wish to change the  state of an object at sat cue point '6'. how to do it?

OK.

Have a look at the attached .story file - this is the usual way to do this, using "off-screen" items and linking a State change to their states.

There are 2 x shapes off screen to the left which make this happen, the states are on the main text box, and there are Triggers in the Trigger Panel.

I have made the State changes appear at a count of 6 and 8 so you can see it happening twice.

Hope this helps.

Hi Bruce,

Saw your reply and example. So just so I'm clear, there isn't a way to simply insert cue points and have state changes attached to the cue points? In other words, if I set a cue point at the beginning of the third sentence of my audio, and I want to set a trigger to change a character's state at that cue point, i have to create a shape and set the trigger to that shape?

Thanks for your help.

I have a  similar problem with graphics. Here's the issue:

I have an embeded video where there is a  speaker talking. During the cut he uses graphics which are not very goood, so I want to cover with versions of my own. Doing the first cover is fine, but the graphics are "builds."  How do you dissolve out a graphic over a video and then nine seconds later, have the same graphic come back with a new bullet point?  Make sense?

Hi Peter, and welcome to the Heroes Community.

There may be other ways to do this, but that is what I would do.

The point about Triggers is that at the moment, (and many of us have submitted Feature Requests...), there's no "Temporal Trigger" ("...at 1 minute 22 seconds change state of X to Y"), or whatever...

You CAN however bring an object in at a specific Timeline point, and then use that to trigger a State change.

Hoping this is a feature in a future release

Gary, if I understand what you're saying I think I would just create individual images of each state of your builds and then just have them appear on the timeline to match the audio. You could use transitions (fade in and out, for example) on each of your images to give them the effect of building smoothly.

Peter - what I am failing miserably to communicate is that this solution, using a box off-screen, is cool.

We may not have everything we want as an out-of-the-box solution from SL, but it forces us to be creative with what we have, andxpand the way we think about things.

If life you gives you a lemon, (which SL is certainly not...) - make lemonade.

Well, I'm still a bit lost, so let me describe what I've got and see what we can come up with. I have a slide that begins with a character standing in front of a white board. I have a text box with 3 paragraphs of text set to fly in. I have those 3 paras synced with the audio. That's all good. Now, what I want to do is have the character change position when each para appears so that he's pointing to each para as it appears on the white board (I'm using the states Pointer 1, Pointer 2, etc..)  How do I accomplish that? I'm afraid that watching the video clip posted earlier in the thread with the audio counting 1 through 8 doesn't help me.

Thanks for any help anyone can give!

Here's my workaround. Took me four frustrating hours to figure it out but it works.

There are three elements: background ( to cover the video), Title, and bullet points.

Create the first text slide with first bullet point:

Group background and title (they don't change) and insert first bullet as text box.

Insert next bullet point as a text box.

Move the second bullet point on the timeline to  where you want it to appear ( create a gap between first bullet point and second so that the video is seen again).  The second bulle point is on the top line of the timeline,

Copy "group 1"  and the first bullet point.

Move the cursor so the second bullet point is highlighted. Paste group 1 and first bullet into the second bullet poiint
Your're done.

Hard to believe that took four hours to figure out isn't it?
