Hi Shinosuke,

Welcome to the community.

I'm not completely sure I'm understanding the question, but I figured I'd try!

First, when you say "Text Entry Quiz", are you referring to the freeform Text Entry (Insert >New Slide >Quizzing >Freeform >Text Entry)

If so, when you create this quiz you are asked to enter the acceptable answer(s).

Then, a text entry is automatically created and the acceptable answer(s) you type are stored in the variable which is automatically created. This screen shot shows the text entry on the slide, the associated item on the timeline, and the text entry in the Manage Project variables dialog box.

Does that help? If not, be sure to post again.

Hi Rebecca,

thanks for your answer. I'm afraid I didn't explain myself right. Here's the thing:

Imagine I have a variable (let's call it 'var1') and I set the value 'abcd' for var1. Then I create a freeform Text Entry (Insert >New Slide >Quizzing >Freeform >Text Entry), when I set an acceptable answer I don't want to set 'abcd' but instead, I want to tell somehow to storyline that the acceptable answer is the value stored in var1. So what I want storyline to do, is compare the text typed by the user in the text entry with the value already stored in var1. If both values are the same then the answer is right otherwise is wrong.

Hope it's clearer now

Hi Jeff,

thanks for your answer. I'm afraid the Fill in the blank question doesn't suit for me because I don't know in advance the value stored in the variable. That value is set by the user in a previous slide and the only thing I can check, is the value stored in the variable (in a previous slide) and the value typed in the text entry (in the current slide) are both the same.

Ah I misread your request. I tried adding %Var1% as an answer to a Fill in the Blank question and a Freeform Text Entry question but it doesn't seem to work.

That is how I would expect it to work but... it doesn't. It could be a great feature request

Yes I tried with %Var1% and also with =%Var1% but nothing worked. I'm afraid for storyline the acceptable answers are nothing but literals to compare with. :'(

Hi Shinnosuke,

I just wanted to welcome you to the E-Learning Heroes community, and it looks like Jeff is pointing you in the right direction regarding a feature request. You may want to include a link to this forum thread when you submit the feature - just so you don't have to explain yourself all over again!

Let us know if you need anything else!

Hi Katie!

Thanks for checking back! Unfortunately, I don't see a feature request submitted regarding setting correct answers to be the value of a changeable variable.

I'm happy to take a look at your file and see if we can find a workaround. You can share your file with us by using the "add attachment" button in this discussion. Or you can share the file privately with our Support Engineers by using this link.

Hello Lauren,

Thanks for the check-in. Currently I have things functional through the use of a bunch variables. The basic idea with this file is that random numbers are generated for the "headers" of 4 columns and 4 rows. Learners fill out a math worksheet for the "cells". There's some math triggers to add up the correct answers (e.g. CalcA1). Then it checks the value entered in the text box (e.g. AnswerA1) to that calculated answer. If it is a match, then points add up and states change to show feedback. If not a match, then other states happen with other feedback. This method functions well so that different students get different prompts and all of the answers check out.

The part that doesn't really work well is the LMS reporting piece. Because it is all custom, I ended up using some javascript to try to send the custom points counter variable to the LMS.  At the current time it does send the points (yay!) but it's also sending a "pass" completion on a failed score. I've been testing it in ScormCloud before trying it in Brighspace/D2L.

EDIT: I got the pass/fail status to work, so I updated the file below.

You are welcome to look at it, attached.

I could probably get it to work with custom interactions, but it would be much cleaner if we could set the correct answer to the value of a variable as a few people have mentioned here. This would allow us to use the built-in quizzing features.

I'm actually testing out a few e-learning tools and this would be a big feature for us that none of the others currently do. Since it sounds like there is no current feature request, I'll submit a new one.

Wow, Katie! That is an incredible build!

Looking at the Triggers panel, it looks like you've found a workaround. That would be my suggestion as well; to create a trigger that includes the different answers that would be marked as "correct".

I also see the feature request that you submitted. Our team will take a look and decide on the impact!

In the meantime, I hope our community members will continue to share workarounds! It's amazing to see the creativity in the space.
