Set variable before everything appears on slide to control SWF ?

Hello,
I need to pass a variable to a SWF from Storyline.
My SWF needs a variable from SL before it starts so it can jump to a particular section according to the value of this variable.
But the trigger "When timeline starts" actually sets the variable when everything is set on stage so it's actually available for the SWF in the next slide !
Is there a clean way to set a variable before everything else in SL ?
I could of course set the variable at the end of the previous slide but it won't work if you come back to the slide.
I could also make the SWF start afterwards but I would get an ugly flash (!) at the beginning of the slide.
Any idea ? Thanks.

Hello Pierre - not exactly sure how you have your variable(s) set up, but one thing you may try is moving your trigger(s) that adjust the variable to the slide master. A little known trick is that triggers on the slide master actually load and trigger before anything else on the slide. Doing something like this may just work for you in this situation...
Thanks Brian,
I tried what you suggested but unfortunately it does not work, as far as the SWF is concerned.
I put a textbox on stage to make sure variable was setup by Slide Master, and it is, but it's taken into account by the SWF on the next slide only...
