Shadows pointing the wrong direction

Jan 15, 2019

In Storyline 360, I have set an object's Active state to have a "perspective" shadow from the bottom of the object to the left and back.  When I review the shadow in States, it looks fine.  When I preview or publish the project, the shadow originates from the bottom of the object and goes to the right and back.  Does anyone have a workaround to get the shadow to move in the correct direction?

Hi there, Mary.  That doesn't look right!  I wasn't able to recreate this behavior in a new file.  With your permission, I'd like to take a look at your project file to investigate what's happening. You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here.  I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting.

If you can't share it, let me grab some additional details:

  • Are you using a shape or a button?
  • How does the Active state get triggered?
  • Are there any animations applied to this object?
  • Is this happening to other objects?

Happy to help!

Hi, Crystal -

Thank you so much for your prompt reply and your offer to help. I really appreciate it.

Unfortunately, after I submitted my question, I changed all the shadows so that they point to the right, since that's what was displaying. Now, when I try to recreate the problem, everything is behaving as we would expect.

I set and reset those shadows 4 times trying to get the States view and the Preview/Published view to match. I had my boss, an accomplished Storyline user, come witness what I was doing and he, too, couldn't figure out what was wrong.

So - bottom line - I no longer have a file to share. Next time, I'll save a copy to share with you before I make corrections.

I've responded to your original questions, below, in case the answers might be helpful.

If you can't share it, let me grab some additional details:

* Are you using a shape or a button? Using a Shape
* How does the Active state get triggered? The Active State is triggered through use of a True/False variable combined with two button-specific triggers (one for True, one for False)
* Are there any animations applied to this object? There are no animations applied to the Shape or anywhere else in the file
* Is this happening to other objects? It happened with all seven of the oblong objects - which were created from one original through copy/paste.
Thank you very much!
