Show/hide layer when multiple checkboxes are ticked/unticked

Feb 07, 2018

Dear team,

I'm building my first training but I'm stuck. I'm trying to show one of three layers (which just contain a sentence each) when users click on a checkbox. This is easy to do, as I put three checkboxes, plus three triggers in the base layer. The problem is that when I click the first checkbox, I correctly see the first layer.

When I click on the second checkbox, the second layer appears, but the previous one disappears. As a workaround, I was copying the text from Layer 1 and pasted it in layer 2, so that when I tick the second box, the content from the first box is still there. Same for box 3: I copied and pasted the content of layer 1 and 2 in layer 3 so that they remain there.

Expected behavior: what I want is that when checkboxes are ticked, the content always needs to show, same if I untick a box, the content has to disappear, no matter in which layer I'm in.

Can you please help me out? Please find some screenshots of the course in the attachments.

This segment is part of a larger project.   I have extracted only this segment for our convenience. However, this problem is true for all other segments as well.

I have a main menu page which branches off to 8 pages.  You can get to each page by clicking a button.

Each page has different buttons triggered to reveal different layers. However, sometimes even when I click on each button, nothing is revealed. So technically the button does not work.  Most of the time, it works great the first time, but does not work the second time.  For some other clipboards holding more than 4 items, often the last two or the first two items on a clipboard does not work.  Here is the main storyline file as well as the desciption of the problem.

Many thanks,

Hi Walt,

Thank you for your prompt response.  Yes, I agree the Cedar Plank works well,  However, for other items such as  'Scallop Casserole' it does not work.  Either the first two items or the last two items on the clipboard does not work.  I am stumped.  I have never seen this problem.

Regarding reinstallation of SL2, as I got a new laptop, I had to reinstall SL2 last week.  Thanks again for your efforts and time.  I hope this problem can be resolved.  Just do not know how :(

Thanks again!

Hi Indrani

Like Walt I can't see any issue and I've been through it a couple of times.

Here is a Peek of Scallop Casserole and Fried Scallop in preview (so not checking web objects).

Perhaps you can upload a video of what is happening for you.

Have you published and uploaded to a webserver or LMS (however the user will see the module) and tested there?

Hello Wendy,

Couple of things are happening from my end.  I uploaded this project onto our LMA. First the good news:

  1. Everything works great in the the browser Chrome.  I do not experience this show/hide issue at all, and the videos (embed code from vimeo) plays perfectly.
  2. However, for my new laptop with windows 10 and IE edge, the same thing happens.
  3. So, when in this new environment, I switched the IE edge with IE, I did not experience this show layer problem.  However, the video does not play at all.

Any help/insight will be fantastic.  Just to let you know that I opened a support ticket as well.

Thank you so much.

Best

Hi Leslie!

It sounds like you've published your Storyline 2 content, and now you're trying to play it on Safari, is that right?

Before you play it, you'll want to host it either on a web server or a LMS to ensure it's working correctly, since playing it from your local drive can cause your content to fail.

Try hosting it on Tempshare (for Web) or SCORM Cloud (for LMS), and then test the link in Safari. Let me know if that helps you!
