Show layer triggers are not working correctly?

Hi there
I see that this is quote a common issue occurring (especially for first time users like myself). I have added 8 layers to a base slide (slide 1.3) that need to appear when the user clicks on certain objects/images on the base slide.
i.e. when the use clicks on the pie/segment "Boundaries" the corresponding layer named "Healthy Boundaries" should appear. I have included in each layer a button to hide the layer so that users revert back to the base slide to then select the next object with is corresponding layer to appear.
I have managed to setup one trigger successfully - the trigger and layer for the section titled "Real and True", however, the remaining triggers and layers are not appearing as they should. I have only setup 2 other triggers so that you can see what the problem is, but have not setup all the remaining triggers for the remaining slide layers.
Please help?

The layers don't work because the boundaries of the image slides overlap each other. Try transparent freeform shapes instead, as I have done in the attached file.
Thank you so much Michael. I have really been struggling with that one for days now! Do you have any resources or information on how I can learn to do that for future purposes? I also left one of the layers out completely so that will be a nice practice activity for me to apply this solution.
I simply added a freeform shape, drew it and then duplicated it n times. Here is some info on adding shapes and here is info on formatting shapes.
