Showing/hiding groups to be triggered by random variable

Nov 17, 2020

I have some items that have triggers attached to them to action something when they intersect with an object on screen.

I've then grouped them into 2 groups. I want to have a random number variable generate a random number between 1 and 2 (eventually will be more but just testing this at the moment) then display the corresponding group.

The issue is you can't show or hide groups. And if I put my groups into layers, you then can't use the object intersect trigger as the items need to be on the same layer.

Is there anyway round this or am I just going to have to include everything on the base layer have really long triggers. E.g. show, rectangle 1 and 2 if variable is equal 1 etc

I've attached a test file. At the moment there's only 2 items in each group but I'd ideally want maybe 10 items in each group, which is why I'm trying to find a way of keeping them together.

Thanks

Hi Arash,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing what you are experiencing in your file. I took a look at the .story file, but I'm not seeing where the variable is in use, so I'm not following the issue or how to replicate the behavior.

Would you be able to share the steps to replicate and when this variable should be adjusted? I'd be happy to take another look.

Hi thanks for replying.

I've not set it up because from what I've seen there's no functionality to show/hide groups. That really was my question.

Is there a way to show/hide a group?

I'd like to eventually have them show/hide based on a random number variable but I can't set it up because i can't see any option in Storyline to do so.

Thanks
