Showing visual feedback WITHOUT setting up a Results Slide?

Feb 07, 2017

I'm trying to add review functions on Knowledge Check (quiz) questions including checks, Xs, missed items (multiple response), and a feedback button. But I don't want to have a Results Slide because my questions are dispersed throughout the lesson. Is it possible to "turn on" the visual feedback without adding a Results Slide? I know that there's a "Show correct/incorrect responses when reviewing" choice in the Results Slide options....

Hi Rowan!

Thanks for your question! So just to make sure I'm understanding correctly, when do you want your users to see the visual feedback? Right after completing the question, or when they go back to revisit a quiz slide? Do you intend to include a "Review" button at the end of your course that users can click to go back and review the entire lesson?

HI Alyssa! Thanks for responding :-)   I want the visual feedback and feedback box to appear immediately after completing the question (upon clicking submit). Then I'd like both to remain if the learner goes back to review (feedback is in a button they can click). I don't intend on having a review button at the end of the lesson because my final slide of each lesson includes the key points that were reinforced via knowledge checks.

That makes sense - thanks for clarifying. It sounds like you'll want to use the default Correct and Incorrect feedback layers that automatically appear when you create a quiz slide. And remember, you aren't tied to the default design. You can remove the gray feedback box from the Feedback Master and put anything you would like on those feedback layers.

Next, you'll want to adjust the Slide Properties to "Resume Saved State" if you want the feedback to remain on the slide when the user revisits the slide.

I hope this is helpful, and feel free to share your file here if you'd like more specific design ideas from the community!

We're missing the feedback layer with the visual feedback, and the selection to give feedback by choice instead of by question. It's a local install but in a closed environment (no internet access). Just to make extra sure... we're using Storyline 2 not 360. Is the visual feedback supposed to be on a feedback layer in both versions? Or is it a new feature in 360?

We're working on the install issue and hard coding the visual feedback to resolve. Just curious about what is supposed to happen versus what is happening so that we can address consistently going forward.

As long as you're using a Form-Based or Freeform Quiz question, the Correct and Incorrect feedback layers should automatically appear. Take a look at this screenshot from Form View - do you also see the feedback options at the bottom of the screen? It might be helpful if you could share screenshots of what you're seeing on your end.

Ah, I think I understand what you're looking for now. Are you wanting the Correct/Incorrect feedback layers to look like this?

What you see there is the default view that users see when they click the Review button on a Results slide. And since your course does not have a Results slide, you're not seeing this feedback layer.

What you can do instead is customize the Correct/Incorrect feedback layers to have the same design as the image above. You'll want to first remove the default gray box and text boxes from the Feedback Master. Then, you can add shapes and text (similar to what I did in the attached file) to redesign the layers.

Take a look, and let me know if this will work for you!

By chance did your family live in Pittsburgh? That is an unusual last name
in my experience and I have only known of one Terwilliger family.

Thanks for the help.

Is there a reason people do not want their signature out in the public?
