Slide with layers that play in succession and slide completion issue

Oct 04, 2017

Hi there,

We have a course that slides were programmed with multiple layers that play in order. So when the timeline in Layer 1 completes, layer 2 starts etc.

The problem with that approach is that once the first layer's timeline finishes, the user can click next even though the course is restricted.

Is there a workaround for this?

Thanks,

Eitan

Hi Eitan,

Restricted navigation is based on the slide timeline - perhaps instead you may want to look at restricting the function of the next button based on a variable that could be adjusted on the last layer?

With Storyline 360  (and Storyline 3) you can choose to restrict the menu and/or the next button as described here.

Hope that helps!

Hello Eitan!

That should be possible! Sounds like you have the layers proceeding automatically and not 'on click'? Is that right?

You could:

  1. Set a trigger to change the state of the Next button to hidden when timeline starts on base slide
  2. Add a variable - I usually use a T/F variable set to false by default
  3. Add trigger on the last layer to adjust the variable to True when the timeline reaches x time of the layer
  4. Add a trigger to adjust the state of Next button to Normal with the variable adjusts to True

The user should be able to click Next and proceed now.

If that's not your set-up or you need some assistance, feel free to share your .story file so that I can take a look.

I've shared a very rough example :)
